Changing honeywell thermostat...wiring question

Postby Tracker » Mon Aug 01, 2011 7:59 pm

I am a novice and I just bought a house.I would like to change the thermostat to a programmable one.

The old one is a Honeywell TH3201D1004 The wiring goes like -
White wire...Aux terminal
Green wire.... G terminal
Yellow wire....Y terminal
Orange.....O terminal
Red wire....R
Blue wire....C terminal
Brown wire...nothing
Black wire.... nothing

the new Thermaostat is a Honeywell TH6220D1002. It has the following -
L, E, Aux, G, O/B, C, Y, R, Rc

Can you tell me which wires go Where?

Thanks!!

Check out the "Thermostat Wiring Chart" in the "Articles" Forum on this site.

You will wire the new thermostat identically to the old one. TURN OFF THE POWER. Put tape on each wire writing the appropriate letter for the terminal the wire was connected to before disconnecting. The orange wire will go to the O/B terminal on the new 'stat. Now you will need to be careful in the setup program. I am assuming you have 2 heat/1 cool heatpump (step 1, pg6). The tricky part is when is the O/B changeover valve energized... heating or cooling? To know for certain you can see how the old thermostat was set for the O connection in setup. Or you can check the condenser unit manual to know. Worst case, if you get it wrong, is you'll have heat from the system when you want cooling. If that happens, change the step 2 setting (page 6 of the installation manual).

If you are not comfortable with electronics and low voltages, please call someone to help.
