convert R410 air handler to R22

Postby jerryjerryt » Sat Oct 22, 2011 5:47 pm

I have an almost new 2.5T R 22 compressor and now my air handler has died. I want a variable speed 2.5 or 3T unit but all say they are for R410. Can I use a R410 unit and simply change the TVX to use with R22? if not, why not?

If you have an R-22 condenser you can get a r-22 coil to match as well as the air handler. A variable speed motor might be specifically designed for an r-410 high efficient model but I don't see any reason why you can't match up a r-22 air handler with the system as well. The air flow is just the air flow and is the same no matter what air handler you use. Unless the guy is trying to sell you a full system that is American Standard which I don't think makes r-22 equipment anymore, there should not be a problem finding a air handler and coil to change out with.
