hello fellow techs. anyone had to clean a mini split lately?

airhandler ...mold on the wheel that the home owner calls to say my a/c is spitting out black stuff ... had that one yet heatseeker ?...daily for me

I don't work on POS mini splits reminds too much of a window unit and I don't like pos equipment. Minisplits need to be kicked in the split area.

Sounds like a lot of moisture lying around in there. You may want to make sure the evaporator is level and draining properly. Give it a good cleaning with a non acid coil cleaner. Try to get all the mold areas. Mini splits are a good option for boiler owners and are a good step up from window units.

Hey ed thanks for the reply,i dont now where ur at but i'm in the florida keys our a/c's run 10 months a year with at least 80% humidity all year long i invite u down come show me how to not have a continous moisture problem in any application where do u live?...by the way coils are always clean its the f@$%n wheel

Well, there goes my theory! Sorry, failed to notice your location. I am way north of you almost on the Canadian border. Slightly different weather. Does this happen to a lot of the systems there? Or is it isolated to certian homes? There is only a few months of a/c here. I'd love to visit, a/c and refrigeration work is my preference, but I work on heating systems most of the year. (go figure) Would it be worth trying some bleach solution to kill the bacteria causing the mold? Does it occur in your split systems too?

ed there is so much mold growth here in the entire systems,its just ridiculous,for example on several occasions ill go on a servive call where the customer states i hear something running but no air is coming out. so first thing i do is turn the unit on fan go to the air handler/blower,whatever...here the motor runing no air flow,pull the panel look at the squirrel cage/blower wheel what ev... and see that each blade is completly covered solid with build up{mold dust dirt,what ev..}then check the coil basically clean it up. now its 350.00 what my former employer charges for a coil clean down here the thing with the minisplits is u have to pump down the system take the a/h off the wall outside to prop. clean it.not to mention its all plastic snap,crackle, pop... gotta love it
