I am getting code 31 on our carrier furnace- reset dss and main blower comes on but no heat- inducer motor turns freely but does not run -thanks in advance DK

Please post the model number again. Do not use and dashes or slashes or question marks as they get deleted. Turn off the power to the furnace for 10 minutes to reset the control board. Have someone at the thermostat call for heat while you are at the furnace observing closely. Please describe exactly what happens and when. Use paper and pencil. The more details the better the chances of finding the problem.

Your error code involves the inducer assembly. If the inducer motor is not turning on then that is the problem. Either it is not getting power from the control board or the motor itself is bad. To reset the control board, turn off the power to the furnace for about 10 minutes. Without the inducer starting immediately when you call for heat, the furnace isn't going to run.

is there a way to test the inducer draft * there is a test lug on the control board- how would I do * thanks in advance

There is a board testing procedure but I wouldn't do it unless necessary. You may fry the board by accident. The easy way to test the inducer power is remove the inducer motor plug from the control board and then have someone call for heat and you measure the AC voltage at the control board terminals where the inducer motor connects. You should measure 120 volts AC.

I took an extention cord and ran the inducer - it runs fine (Quiet /fast) then I plugged droplight in at control board- there is no power coming out of it- is it the control * or is there something else I should check- thanks

If the inducer motor runs when you directly power it AND If there is no power at the control board plug for the inducer motor, you have found your problem. You might inspect the control board closely for loose solder joints especially near the plug for the inducer connection. Usually there will be a small relay that is energized by the digital circuitry and switches the 120 volts AC to the inducer plug. Possibly that is the problem. You might start looking for a new control board.
