Fan takes a long time to turn on, thermal trips

My Trane XE 80 gas furnace started behaving incorrectly. When I first turn on the heat in the morning, the furnace fan doesn't blow and eventually the furnace thermal protection kicks in and turns the gas off. After it cools down for a few minutes, it tries again. After 3 or 4 cycles the fan starts blowing and everything works as expected. Do I need to replace the control *

Another strange thing it did yesterday - it turned on the AC compressor and the condensor was completely frozen in ice. I had the thermostat set to heat and not cool so the compressor should have never been on.

Describe your system. Is it a simple furnace heat with AC. Can you post the model number of the Trane furnace.

Look at the front of the Trane furnace. See if there is a 3" x 5" metal box mounted at the heat exchanger level with a 1" probe going into the furnace. If you see that box, the front cover should come off easily. Is there a dial inside.
